Oh my gosh! This is so fascinating and sad. I really hope they are able to save it. If not for the public space, but for the future benefits of the community. Their plans sound amazing!!!
Do gardens like this mainly work with the help of volunteers or do you think they have employees? Have you ever thought about working or volunteering at a garden like this? I'm not sure how many there are around you, or if you would even have the time, but it seems like your love for plants, and in this case history, would be such a perfect fit. *whispers* And think about all of the seeds you could harvest! LOL.
I know! It's such a lovely garden now but the plans would really be so good for the neighborhood. I know that housing is a big deal in NYC right now, but there are other spots to put it, plus the garden probably benefits lots more people in the long run.
I'm guessing this one is run by volunteers? And I really should volunteer at a garden--we have some here in Brooklyn a lot closer--I just need to get up the courage! And, ha ha, seed collecting would be a plus, too. You'd be so proud of Drew because he brings back seeds for me from the perennial rooftop gardens at his work :)
Hey, I get it. I wish courage was a little more accessible to everyone, myself included. More often than not, getting through the initial fear/reservation usually results in something positive. When you're ready, you're ready. Might not be today, might not be next year, but one day I feel like you'll do it. You'd have so much to offer and the opportunity to learn from other folks would be so awesome.
Drew is such a sweetheart. Kid is always being so thoughtful <3
